The future of road fuels
Reduce your carbon footprint without compromising on performance
HVO helps organisations spread the cost of reducing emissions to achieve targets in a financially sustainable way. Unlike most other methods of reducing carbon emission, big upfront CAPEX is not required. It is approved for use as a drop-in replacement in most Diesel engines, enabling you to utilise the lifespan of your existing assets and spread the cost of reducing emissions. Residual values of these existing Diesel assets are easier to forecast than most other carbon saving technologies, helping to control the costs of reducing emissions.
HVO is relatively new fuel in the UK and the market is not very liquid. As such, our clients turn to us to help them manage the price-risk, secure volumes and control the costs of using it. Please book-in a meeting with a commercial expert to discuss how we can help.
Understand your
business case for HVO
The UK government support the use of HVO made from waste oils, such as used cooking oil, under the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation (RTFO) scheme, in turn, making it economical in the UK and the key reason why HVO in the UK market is predominantly made from sustainable, waste oils.
International Sustainability & Carbon Certified (ISCC) 100% HVO coupled with the Renewable Fuel Assurance Scheme (RFAS) protocol, provides clients with clear traceability of the deforestation-free, ethical and sustainable supply chain. Our clients benefit from a transparent view of the chain of custody throughout the supply chain from feedstocks to production to the fuel delivered in your tank.

100% interchangeable with fossil diesel
HVO initially mixes with the existing fuel in your tank, at any ratio. We’d advise that you run your diesel stock down to a comfortable level before taking your first Prema delivery.
Always on Time
Our customer support is rightfully renowned. We’ll fully support your organisation throughout its transition to HVO. Any questions, just ask.
Upgrade with zero modifications
Upgrading to Prema HVO is simple and seamless. No costly modifications to your existing system are required, and there’s no need to purchase any new equipment.

HVO Diesel Fuel FAQs
The acronym, ‘HVO’, stands for ‘Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil’. This name originates from the last decade when HVO was made from vegetable oils. Today, HVO is produced from used cooking oil, animal fats and tall oil as well as vegetable oils. So, the name ‘Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil’ is no longer really an accurate term to describe the fuel but it has stuck!
The UK government support the use of HVO made from waste oils, such as used cooking oil, under the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation (RTFO) scheme, in turn, making it economical in the UK and the key reason why HVO in the UK market is predominantly made from sustainable, waste oils.

100% HVO typically provides an 85% lifecycle GHG emission saving in comparison to conventional fossil Diesel.
It is also cleaner burning, significantly reducing tailpipe emissions but we suggest taking the ‘up to’ emission saving figures bandied around the market with a pinch of salt!
Our experts can help you determine real-world tailpipe emission savings.
HVO is used by our clients to retain and win new business from customers demanding lower carbon emissions in their supply chains by utilising it in a targeted way.
We can help facilitate you passing on these costs to such clients.
With drop-in, ‘plug and play’, standalone tanks, with fuel management systems and dispensers at your depots.
We provide these on both lease and purchase agreements.

No, HVO is completely different from FAME. In fact, HVO is a higher performance fuel than traditional fossil diesel.
Biodiesel also known as FAME diesel (Fatty Acid Methyl Ester) is a first-generation biofuel. It is well known for its poor performance; especially in storage and in cold weather.
HVO is a second-generation biofuel. It can be stored for up to 10 years with no problems, and has superior in use performance to fossil diesel.
HVO is actually a higher performance and cleaner burning alternative to fossil diesel. This typically results in our customers performing similar or less frequent fuel filter changes.
We recommend that you speak with your service provider to confirm requirements for your model.
HVO meets the widely accepted EN15490 fuel specification.
HVO fuel is a paraffinic renewable diesel fuel derived from sustainable raw materials.
Prema HVO meets EN15490 and is approved for use by most major engine manufactures.
The fuel is formulated from fossil-free and FAME-free sources and is certified by the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC).
The consumption rate of Prema HVO is very similar to conventional diesel if not better.
This is largely due to the fact that conventional diesel, unlike Prema HVO, typically contains Biodiesel FAME. The calorific value of this biodiesel element is lower than Prema HVO.
When comparing Prema HVO with conventional diesel, studies have discovered a slight tendency (0.5%) towards lower energy consumption in MJ/km and better engine efficiency with Prema HVO.
