Reduce Net CO₂ Emissions by up to 85%
HVO renewable diesel is a direct replacement for red and white diesel, suitable for use in both on-road and off-road vehicles and machinery.
Derived from certified sustainable raw materials, HVO significantly reduces carbon emissions, achieving up to 85% net CO₂ reduction compared to conventional diesel. This makes it an ideal solution for businesses seeking to meet their sustainability targets.

How do you switch to HVO from Diesel?
Transitioning to HVO is a seamless process. As a direct replacement for diesel, HVO is fully interchangeable allowing your vehicles to switch between fuels without issue. Approved by all major Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), a quick check should confirm warranties are unaffected.
If you don’t already have fuel storage on site, the most economical way to buy HVO is to install a bunded fuel tank and arrange wholesale deliveries. Prema offers tailored solutions for your HVO switch, from installing new tanks and fuel management systems to advising on integrating HVO into your operations and streamlining carbon accounting.

What is our HVO Made from?
Our HVO is certified to the highest standards of sustainability by the ISCC. As members of the Renewable Fuels Assurance Scheme, our customers rest assured that every delivery is covered by an independently audited certificate showing the country of origin and nature of the feedstock of that batch of HVO, the carbon intensity and actual carbon savings compared to conventional diesel, taking the guesswork out of carbon accounting.
Prema HVO is guaranteed to be made from at least 99% waste feedstock - typically 100% Used Cooking Oil, which is the most sustainable form of HVO.

HVO Diesel Fuel Frequently Asked Questions
HVO fuel is a direct diesel substitute made from waste oils and fats that have been hydrotreated in a refinery. It offers the same, if not better, performance as diesel with around 85% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
Compared to diesel, HVO fuel is fully sustainable and much better for the environment. It not only slashes greenhouse gas emissions from diesel-powered equipment by ~85%, it also reduces local emissions with reduced particulates and NOx, contributing to lower air pollution and a healthier environment for workers.
HVO stores better than diesel and is more reliable in cold weather. In addition, Prema’s HVO customers are reporting using less fuel, less AdBlue and requiring fewer filter changes.
Yes, HVO and diesel are fully miscible and interchangeable. Not only can they be blended at any percentage by Prema for delivery to customers who wish to transition gradually to HVO, they can be safely mixed in a vehicle’s fuel tank.
This means peace of mind for drivers – unlike most alternative fuels and electric vehicles, which necessitate careful planning between fills/charges, if you run out of HVO while on the road, you can safely top up with diesel at any filling station and complete your journey.
HVO refineries are in production worldwide. HVO is imported into the UK from both Europe and the US. The feedstocks which are used to make Prema HVO, typically used cooking oil, are collected both locally and further afield.
Used cooking oil is considered waste by most governments so factories and restaurants must either pay to dispose of it into landfill or they can be paid by companies who collect it to be recycled into biofuel. This makes HVO an ethical and environmentally positive use of waste oils, keeping them out of landfill and reducing fly tipping, drain and sewer blockages from illegal disposal.
HVO has a substantially higher flashpoint than diesel of 61 degrees Celsius, meaning it is less flammable. It is also safer for the environment in the event of a spill as it is not soluble in water and is also biodegradable.
HVO can be used anywhere diesel is currently used. It is a direct replacement for fossil diesel and is used worldwide in every kind of diesel application:
- from private cars to HGVs, buses and trains;
- construction plant, cranes, forklifts and heavy lifters;
- marine pleasure craft and large ships;
- grain dryers and industrial boilers;
- electricity generators and power stations.
The UK government effectively subsidises HVO for use in vehicles, plant and mobile electricity generators. If you are considering HVO for heating the price will be much higher. HVO is the most simple, financially and economically sustainable way to quickly cut carbon from your diesel applications.
For a small premium over the diesel price, you can cut greenhouse gas emissions by ~85% without replacing existing assets and no capital expenditure required.
Ideally suited to heavy vehicles and plant, for which there are currently few viable alternatives which offer the necessary power and range.
Prema offers direct HVO deliveries nationwide at competitive prices.
