Facilitating the transition to HVO can be made easier by partnering with Prema. We take the time to work directly with hauliers to explain the benefits of HVO, address any concerns, and start the onboarding process.
This was how our relationship with a small haulage company based in the North East began. This company had several regular customers, including a pallet pooling company which required them to start using HVO to keep the contract. At first, the haulier was both reluctant to make the change and unsure where to start, so the pallet pooling company asked Prema to help.
First, we assessed the average mileage covered by the contract and calculated that a 10,000-litre tank would enable them to take a monthly delivery of fuel to cover the contract. This would also allow room for growth if any other clients wanted to use HVO.
Next, we supported the hauliers as they sought approval from their engine manufacturers and to secure support from their client to install a tank.
A site engineer was dispatched to survey the yard and determine the best site for the tank. We provided a quote for the installation of a concrete pad to hold the tank and a lengthy trench to connect electricity. Our tanks are plug-and-play, so the only requirement is a single 240V socket available nearby.
The end client agreed to pay the capital costs associated with the groundworks and tank procurement to facilitate use of HVO. The savings in fuel costs from having on-site storage, compared to filling up at roadside bunkers, means the capital costs are soon covered. After securing utility and drainage plans and seeking permission from the site owner, Prema was able to set a date to start work.

That’s not all; after the switch, Prema provides timely, independently audited certificates which clearly show the volume of fuel purchased, its sustainability credentials and actual carbon savings. We can set these up to be attributed directly to end clients so they can be confident the fuel was used on their behalf and there is no risk of double-counting of carbon credits.
