What is Prema HVO made from?
The acronym, ‘HVO’, stands for ‘Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil’. This name originates from the last decade when HVO was made from vegetable oils. Today, HVO is produced from used cooking oil, animal fats and tall oil as well as vegetable oils. So, the name ‘Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil’ is no longer really an accurate term to describe the fuel but it has stuck!
The UK government support the use of HVO made from waste oils, such as used cooking oil, under the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation (RTFO) scheme, in turn, making it economical in the UK and the key reason why HVO in the UK market is predominantly made from sustainable, waste oils.
